Mike began cabinet making in
1972 when, as a new young homeowner, he wanted to remodel his kitchen. With
cost being a key factor, he decided to build his own cabinets. Having nothing
but the basic power hand tools and a newly purchased radial arm saw, $99 at the
time, he set off on cabinet construction. He was fortunate enough to locate a
local farmer that had a supply of black walnut at bargain prices. The final
result was raised-panel cabinets that were really too good for a kitchen but,
then again, the price was too good to be true.
For many years after that, woodworking as a hobby was sporadic for him
and he switched to restoring cars and motorcycles, possibly because of raising
two sons. However, the two are not that different because each endeavor
requires diligence and attention to detail. Since 1998, woodworking has been
his primary focus. He is now a Juried Member of the East Tennessee Woodworker's Guild.
By far, most of my furniture projects have been for our own home. Each
set of furniture that is completed winds up being designated, by my wife, to
ultimately go to a specific grandchild. Only recently have I begun selling to
people that have asked me to make something custom for them.
I would be happy to talk with you about anything that you may be
interested in having me build. I do not have an inventory of items. I prefer to
work with you to learn the specifics of what you desire such as style, size and
material. Delivery will depend on the backlog at the time.
My preference is building quality furniture from solid, rough-sawn
hardwoods but, if you have other projects in mind that require other materials
such as plywood or other laminates, I can work with those as well
I don't have a showroom, unless you consider the furniture and
accessories I have in my home as such. If you are interested in visiting to see
my workshop, furniture and other capabilities, please call me at (865)379-9317
to set up a time and to receive my address and directions.
